About Casino Apps

Casino Apps is a South African site about the casino games you can play on your phone with a licensed South African bookmaker. Slots, live dealer tables, crash games like Aviator, and the apps that carry them. We open the apps, read the terms, and write down what we find.

There is a lot written about casino apps in South Africa and most of it is copied from somewhere else. Offers that ended months ago. Licence numbers that belong to a company in another country. Lists of “top casinos” that are really just a list of whoever paid the most. We would rather be slower and right.

What we cover

  • The apps themselves. How you install them on Android and iPhone, how the casino section is laid out, and what it is like to use on a mid-range phone on mobile data.
  • The games. Slots, live dealer blackjack and roulette, lucky numbers, and the crash games that fill most South African screens on a Friday night.
  • The money. How you deposit, how you withdraw, what it costs you, and how long it actually takes.
  • The licence. Which provincial board the operator answers to, and the licence number it publishes on its own site.
  • The offers. What the welcome offer really gives you once you read the wagering terms.

Who we are

We write as an editorial team rather than under a single name. Between us we have spent years in and around the South African betting industry, and we have accounts with the operators we write about. Nobody on the team is paid by an operator to write a review, and no operator sees a review before it goes live.

Where our facts come from

Every figure on this site comes from the operator itself. A licence number comes off the footer of that operator’s own website. A welcome offer comes off its promotions page with the terms read in full. A payment method comes from its banking or help pages. If something is not published anywhere we can see it, we say so on the page instead of guessing at a number.

We do not copy other comparison sites. They get things wrong too, and repeating their mistake does not make it true.

What is legal in South Africa

Sports betting and horse racing with a licensed South African bookmaker are legal, and always have been under the National Gambling Act. Online casino was never separately licensed. In practice the big licensed bookmakers run full online casinos, live dealer tables, slots and crash games under their provincial bookmaker licences, on the basis that you are betting on the outcome of a game. That is why you will find a Casino tab inside almost every major South African betting app.

The regulator and the industry do not fully agree on where that line sits. What is not in any doubt is the difference between an operator holding a South African provincial licence and an offshore site holding none at all. We only write about the licensed ones.
